BI provides customers with the rarest and most exceptional wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Italy, Champagne and the rest of world. Established in 1997, BI is a multi-award-winning fine wine merchant with an inclusive, unstuffy style. It's always been our aim to make the world of fine wine accessible to a broader audience, removing the elitism and promoting a transparent and innovative approach to selling fine wine for both drinking and investment.

From humble beginnings in a small office on St John St in London's Smithfield, Bordeaux Index has grown to become the world's first fully fledged global fine wine trading business. With offices in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Los Angeles, we are working around the clock, 24 hours a day - finding new wines to bring to our customers, preparing offers and broking cellars. Since our foundation we have become an established player in all the key fine wine markets, and 'feet on the ground' in these regions lends us local knowledge which really helps us to understand our individual customers and cater to regional wine markets.

  • As well as providing the best possible service for private clients looking to buy for consumption, investment or both, we provide the best merchant-to-merchant services in the business
  • With in excess of GBP15m in our own stocks and a further GBP5m of broking stock, we have one of the most comprehensive offerings of fine wine available anywhere in the world
  • Our UK warehouse offers unbeatable value in the most advanced, long term wine storage facility in the world - Octavian's new Colerne warehouse
  • All wines can be viewed online via client reserves and you can also take advantage of our innovative 'My Portfolio' system to track, trade and manage wines listed on the Livetrade platform
  • Our award-winning LiveTrade system was the world's first on-line trading platform for fine wine with firm bid and offer prices available 24 hours a day – but it was always our plan to expand globally to satisfy the demand of our 'global village' of clients

Learn more about BI London

Despite being born and raised in South Africa, Gary Boom had no desire to return to the motherland on leaving his career in the City of London; instead the fascination of the wine trade and the UK's role at the centre of the industry gave him another reason to stay. Since its foundation in 1997, BI has had its roots in London; the central hub of the business, the UK office is based in London's Hatton Garden – just 10 minutes in each direction from the West End and the City. BI has been in this location for over 5 years now, having significantly outgrown the original offices round the corner on St John Street (although the restaurant of the same name still functions as something of an office canteen...) With 40 permanent staff over four floors in our purpose-built offices, this is the 'mothership' of BI: buying, accounts, marketing, IT and HR are all based here and operate as the link between the other 3 worldwide offices.

Learn more about BI Hong Kong

Established in 2007 by Doug Rumsam, BI HK has grown to become a serious fixture on the Asian wine scene. We sell to private customers and the trade, giving access to the world's finest stock at the sharpest prices. Thanks to 10 years of trading in London, BI had already established excellent credentials with all the major wine estates and suppliers in the European wine market; in addition, given the global nature of our customer base, BI already had many customers and contacts across Asia who needed the same level of personal service as was being offered to clients local to the London office. The loosening of trade and tax laws around fine wine provided the final impetus and within just a few years the business had gone from a one-man operation to a fully-fledged fine wine merchant with a dozen permanent staff.

  • The BI HK experience is based on a shared passion for all the finer things, whether they be vinous, culinary or just downright experiential; whether it's a multi-sensory Krug dinner in HK's highest penthouse, or a night in the company or Italy's finest (and craziest) winemakers, your life as a BI HK customer will certainly never be dull
  • We ship regularly from our own warehouse or your UK-based reserves to HK – rates can be seen here
  • In addition we offer access to high quality storage both in the UK and in Hong Kong (rates can be seen here for the UK and here for HK)
