En Primeur 2007 - Home

Welcome to the en primeur section of our website. At the beginning of April the entire BI sales team was in Bordeaux comprehensively tasting our way through the 2007 vintage and quite a few 2006's as well.

After tasting somewhere in the region of 350 wines, we have come to the conclusion that there are some lovely wines to be had, but only if the chateau price them correctly. After a difficult flowering and a wet August, the vintage was saved by a magnificent September. The best estates did a thorough green harvest, and also trimmed the canopy so that as much sun could get to the vines as possible. Those producers that tried to extract too much have come unstuck in a bad way, but those who realized the limitations of the vintage have made beautifully elegant, stylish wines that will drink brilliantly over a 12-15 year period.

We also tasted a good number of Sauternes and dry whites, and for these wines, it is a terrific vintage. We were particularly impressed with the sweet wines - they have excellent botrytis, great length and excellent acidity... It's a little too early to say if they are as good as the sensational 2001's, but it is unquestionably a great vintage for them. The dry whites also display excellent acidity and finesse, with marvelous concentration... definitely wines to consider.

We will be updating our website as the prices come out and Robert Parker publishes his scores (expected at the end of April).
