Courtesy of Bernard Chenal The majority of wines in Alsace are white and made from Germanic grapes - aromatic Gewurztraminer, varied Riesling, Muscat and full-bodied Pinot Gris. The wines, however, are fully French – full-bodied, round and perfect for the food of the region. Alsace’s appellation classification system is quite simple – encompassing just Alsace AC and Alsace Grand Cru AC for superior wines. Look out for Zind Humbrecht as one of the top producers.
