En Primeur Latest Releases

by Giles Cooper (Head of Marketing & PR)

We have had an interesting start to the afternoon with the highly-rated Giscours available at £390. This is close to the top of our spread but in 2015 the wine is clearly better than anything made in the past few decades, even trumping the 2010, 2009 and 2005; indeed Neal Martin even puts it ahead of such great vintages as 2000, 1990 and even 1982, describing it as "the best Giscours since the 1961" - no small comment. His 94-96pt score line certainly bears out this comment. For interest, the 2010 and 2009 are around £500, the 2005 £550 - and the 2000 is over £700!

The afternoon also saw the release of Le Dome at £880 and Duhart-Milon from the Lafite stable at £500.

This morning, following on from the burst of interest around Pontet Canet – which came out yesterday and has sold out already – we had a number of releases.

The most interesting news was the release of Leoville Barton at £580, who have undoubtedly produced their finest wine since the monolithic 2010. Always a textbook St Julien, packed with classical blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, gravel and cedar, 2015 has delivered a precise and clean-lined Barton which will carry the double-threat of approachability in youth and the potential to live a long, healthy life. Given the price relative to the current trading value of the 2010 (£810) we are recommending this as a smart purchase.

The first two releases from Bruno Borie are available in the form of Lalande Borie (£180) and Croix de Beaucaillou (£320).

One of the big names of Barsac, Climens, was released at £515. For fans of Sauternes this is an exceptional effort, achieving 96-98pts from Neal Martin.

Also released this morning:
Branaire Ducru - £400
Lascombes - £535
Lagrange - £305
