En Primeur Latest Releases

by Giles Cooper (Head of Marketing & PR)

A number of releases today including a number of our great value favourites.

The great value Chateau Potensac has been released today at GBP 210. This fine Medoc is well worth your attention, being of classical structure and proven longevity – and their 2016 is a prime example. James Suckling calls it One of best Potensacs in a long time”and having had a good few bottles of both the 2000 and 2005, both of which are still well into their stride, we would agree that it certainly stands up to both these great vintages.

Chateau Fonbel is available at GBP 150. A consistently impressive wine from the Vauthier family (of 98-100pt Ausone fame) Chateau Fonbel has been a wine trader’s inside tip for decades now. Offering a delightfully ripe, smoky, seductive and immediately accessible style every year, Fonbel has an extra layer of finesse in 2016 thanks to its fine, integrated acidity and exotically spiced fruit. Incredibly good value and well worth your attention – especially good to have in magnums.

Another great release is Chateau Puygueraud. Thanks to our good friends in the Thienpont family, we were lucky enough to taste Puygueraud at Pavie Macquin during Primeur week. Despite it having a long track record of popularity in the traditional UK market, we were not that au fait with it – and we found it extremely impressive. Deep, intense, richly flavoured and with real stuffing – but still supple and very drinkable even at that early stage – it’s a wine which delivers value and quality in spades. As James Suckling says: “It’s really something.”

Other wines released today:

Fombrauge at GBP 195 and Tour Carnet at GBP 240 from the Bernard Magrez family

Prieure Lichine at GBP 340

Moulin St Georges (also from the Vauthier stable) at GBP 270

One of the final Sauternes, Suduiraut, at GBP 515
