En Primeur Latest Releases

by Giles Cooper (Head of Marketing & PR)

The sensational Chateau Palmer has been released this morning and is available for sale at GBP 2840. We have been waiting for Palmer to once again hit the heights we know the estate to be capable of and in 2016, against all the odds, it has turned out spectacularly; the team were completely blown away by its quality, character, finesse, style and sheer exuberance.

The 2016 Palmer is an astonishing wine – a new paradigm for Margaux, and even Bordeaux as a whole. The critics notes and scores speak volumes:

99-100 points, James Suckling - 'You taste it, and you want to know and experience it even more. Full and tannic yet ever so polished and beautiful. Mesmerizing.

19+/20 points, Matthew Jukes - 'This is a masterpiece'

95-97 points, Neal Martin - 'one that I suspect will really blossom in bottle.'

Not to be overlooked, two St Julien stars have also been released: Saint Pierre 2016 at GBP 545 and the very fine 'baby brother' Chateau Gloria at GBP 360.

St Julien was one of the most reliable, consistent and high-performing communes in 2016. Neal Martin described it as an “A-Team Effort... that affirms Saint Julien’s reputation as one of the most reliable communes”. He also quite rightly points out the improved quality/value ratio as one is not paying “for the caché of Pauillac”

Saint Pierre is a serious but under-the-radar special and appears to have reached its apogee in 2016 with 94-96pts, its highest score from Neal Martin to date - "This is a fantastic Saint Julien that may well rest at the top of my banded score."

Chateau Gloria, too, received a particularly commendable 93-95 points from Neal Martin, potentially its highest ever score - 'You come away with the feeling that this Gloria has something up its sleeve for those with patience to cellar it for eight to ten years.'
