En Primeur Latest Releases

by Giles Cooper (Head of Marketing & PR)

One of the classic names of Bordeaux, Langoa Barton, has been released this morning at GBP 420. A long-standing favourite of the British wine trade, thanks in part to its historic ownership and part to its elegantly structured style, Langoa has excelled in 2016 along with its St Julien neighbours.

Langoa has proven to be a very smart choice and the critics would certainly concur with James Molesworth of The Wine Spectator saying 'The fruit is so enticing that you lose track of how solidly built this is through the finish' and James Suckling adding that the 2016 Langoa has 'great depth and power'.

Chateau Beychevelle, one of the benchmark wines of 2016 has been released this morning. However the release is 20% down on 2015 and demand significant; at the moment we are sold out but are on the hunt for more.

Also available today is the superb second wine of Ducru Beaucaillou, now slightly renamed La Croix de Ducru Beaucaillou. This has been released at GBP 420.

The bargain of Bordeaux was then released this afternoon at GBP 315 - Sociando Mallet 2016. Sociando Mallet’s classification as a mere Haut Medoc tells us little of its location, which is in fact on some prime vineyard land close to the Gironde just north of the great classed growth Calon Segur. Thus one must treat it more as a St Estephe than a southern-Medoc wine when considering the impact of the climatic conditions on the wine – and this is good news, for as Neal Martin says “Saint Estèphe played a blinder in 2016.”

Neal Martin gave it an impressive 92-94 points which is potentially the highest score ever. He said 'this 2016 is totally convincing. It comes highly recommended as one of the best wines produced at this estate in the northern Médoc. This is an outstanding wine from Mon. Gartreau.'

Having followed COVID-19 Government advice, we have temporarily closed our London office until further notice, we are however operating as normal. Click here to read more
