A long-standing BI favourite is released today in the form of the delicious Cantemerle at GBP 246. Cantemerle is considered by many to be the ‘Gateway to the Medoc’. Given its astonishing consistency and quality/value ratio it was probably the gateway to Bordeaux for many of us – and if they keep this standard up, it will continue to be for many decades.

This fine, elegant 2017 is the fourth very good vintage in a row to come from this excellent terroir. The essence of Bordeaux, with its precision and freshness – combined with great purity of fruit – one might consider the Cantemerle 2017 to be something of an ‘overperformance’ considering that some grander terroirs have arguably delivered wines which do not meet this standard. In our experience Cantemerle is a wine you can happily stack up to enjoy over many years and at the price, which falls very nicely in the middle of our conservative spread, it is tough to beat.

Continuing the 'great value' theme is Meyney which is available at just GBP 228. With 90-92pts from Neal Martin and 92-93pts from James Suckling, it's a lot of wine for the money.

Also released today is Gazin at GBP 700, a very good wine indeed but one which falls above the top of our spread.
